심지어 학자금을 아예 탕감해주는 정책도 있었다

Biden had said he would forgive $10,000 of the debt for all borrowers, and the rest for those who attended public colleges or historically Black colleges and universities and earn less than $125,000 a year.

 

바이든 대통령이 당선되기 전 유세를 할 때 학자금 대출을 가진 학생들의 빚을 1만 불 탕감해준다고 언급했었다

이를 통해 학생들의 지지를 많이 받았다고 한다

당선된 후 검토 정도만 하고 아직 실행하지는 않았다

아마 가능성이 없을 것 같다

 

대신에 학자금 대출 상환을 안 해도 되는 조건을 걸었다

빚을 탕감해주지는 못하지만 빚에 대한 이자와 원금상환은 경제상황이 좀 나이 지면 하고 공부에 집중할 수 있도록 기회를 주는 것 같다

Biden extends pause on student loan repayment through May 1

"Given these considerations, today my Administration is extending the pause on federal student loan repayments for an additional 90 days — through May 1, 2022 — as we manage the ongoing pandemic and further strengthen our economic recovery," Biden said in a statement.

 

원래는 22년 1월 31일에 만료될 예정이었지만 이를 5월 1일까지 연장을 한다고 어제 바이든 행정부가 발표했다

하지만 이전에 21년 9월 30일에서 22년 1월 31일로 연장할 때 이번이 마지막 연장이라고 언급했었다

그래도 오미크론 변이 바이러스로 인해 수백만명의 미국인 생계를 유지하는데 도움을 주기 위해 연장한다고 척 슈머 원내대표가 언급했다

 

규모는 한 달에 약 50억 불을 절약할 수 있는 금액이라고 한다

그럼 반대로 이 대출 상환에 대한 중단이 연장되지 않는다면 한달에 50억불 이상의 달러가 흡수된다

"As we prepare for the return to repayment in May, we will continue to provide tools and supports to borrowers so they can enter into the repayment plan that is responsive to their financial situation, such as an income-driven repayment plan," said Education Secretary Miguel Cardona in a statement Wednesday.

 

위의 기사 내용 중 미국 교육부 장관인 미구엘 카르도에 의하면 큰 충격이 없도록 계속적으로 다양한 도구와 방법으로 지원할 것이라고 언급했지만,
